Yoshida's Home Run and Gilbert's Strong Performance Propel Mariners to Success

Seattle Mariners outfielder Masataka Yoshida continued his impressive start to the 2023 season, hitting a two-run home run in the fifth inning to give his team the lead for good in a 4-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Saturday in Seattle.

The Mariners have now won four straight games, while the Red Sox have dropped three in a row.

Seattle starter Logan Gilbert turned in another strong outing, allowing just two runs on four hits over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out eight batters and walked two.

Yoshida's home run was his 10th of the season and gave the Mariners a 3-2 lead. Eugenio Suarez added an RBI single in the sixth inning to provide Seattle with an insurance run.

The Red Sox had a chance to tie the game in the ninth inning, but Rafael Devers grounded out to end the game with runners on second and third.

With the win, the Mariners improved to 19-17 on the season, while the Red Sox fell to 14-23.
